High yield

High yield is a poor consideration of credit quality (in terms of indicating whether or not there is a significant probability of default). The label ‘high yield’ is assigned by a rating agency. For instance, to be classified as high yield by Standard and Poor’s, a bond or an issuer must have a rating lower than BBB-. High yield is in contrast to investment grade.
